M2M's Operational possibilities?

How real is the dream of Connected Devices with M2M technologies proliferating in the market?

1. What kind of products are possible beyond the current focus on transportation industry?
Refer to this discussion for some examples on industries application:-

Good picture though a bit fuzzy included within as well.

Seems like the whole value chain can benefit from this (especially across device / OEM mfrs to Telcos):-

2. How soon will all this happen?

 4. If the partnership really work as planned, there are great possibilities for the M2M market.
The timing and the market positioning needs to be right in my humble opinion.

Finally, to execute on the plan and have running operations around this some additional engineering and solutions will be needed in this hot space. It will be interesting to see who comes out at the top!
